You may wish to restrict certain matters from being accessed by some users, and you can achieve this in a few different ways depending on your requirement.
You can set access to cases at user level, matter type level
and individual matter level:
- User level permission can restrict a user from accessing cases
belonging to any active fee earners.
- Matter Type level can restrict a user from accessing cases
belonging to a particular matter type.
- Matter level permission can restrict access to an individual
matter and can be set by any user.
User Permissions
This is an Administrator level function
Go to Options -> Users and Groups -> Users, Edit the
user you need to set permissions for, then go to Case Permissions.
To restrict access you can untick the fee earner of the
cases you do not wish that user to access:

When the restricted user
tries to access matters for the ‘blocked’ fee earner they will receive the
following popup message:
The restricted user may be unable to search for, or view, the ‘blocked’ fee earners matters on the Find
Screen depending on which version of Redbrick they have installed.
Matter Type Permissions
This is an Administrator level function
Go to Options -> Matter Types -> select the Matter Type you
need, then go to Default Matter Permissions.
To restrict access you can untick any users who you want to
restrict access to on this particular matter type:

When the restricted user
tries to access matters for the ‘blocked’ fee earner they will receive the
following popup message:
Case Permissions
To set this the User must be a member of a group where the permission is set to "Can Change Matter Level Permissions".
To restrict access to an individual matter for a user, if you are already in it, click to 'Edit Matter', or you can select 'Edit Matter' from the Find screen to make the change without it loading first. Then on the left hand panel select Matter
Level Permission and untick any users
that should not be able to open it:
When the restricted user
tries to access the matter they will receive the following popup message:
