Activating a Matter

Activating a Matter

There are three ways to Activate a matter which as listed below (with more details underneath).

  1. When creating a new matter, click Save and Activate (however, this option may have been disabled by your Administrator)
  2. For already created matters - click the Edit Matter Button on the left of your screen
  3. Tick off the applicable task.
Save and Activate a New Matter

At the point of creation of a matter, click Save and Activate. However, this option may have been disabled by your Administrator. If the Save and Activate button is greyed out you must open your matter in Quote status first so that you can progress through the quote level work required.

Activate an Existing Matter

If the matter is on your system already as a quote (Prospective Client), load the matter and click the Edit Matter Button on the left of your screen

This will open the following window.

You can then change the Status field drop down from Quote to Active, and press OK at the bottom

Note - your Administrator may have added custom Status type in addition to those shown, i.e. Exchanged, Completed, or Abortive.

If your system has Pre-Activation tasks set up these will need to be completed or marked as not required before you are allowed to activate the matter.

You will get the following message if there are incompletion Pre-Activation tasks.

You may have to cancel the activation and complete the tasks in the Progress area before coming back to activate the matter.

Pre-Activation tasks can be things like ensuring you have checked if you have monies on account, or required client documentation etc has been returned before you activate the matter.

Should you require any assistance in setting up Pre-Activation tasks please speak to your Business Consultant.

Ticking a Task

You can activate a matter by ticking off a task in the Progress screen that has the Activate trigger set against it. The symbols that indicate which task triggers will be fired are typically to the left of the task and the Change Status trigger (such as to change to Active, in this example) is a green circle with a tick in it.

Once a matter is made Active, your matter view now looks like this:

Please note that all active matters will be invoiced in the following calendar month.
